Who are Queensland Movie Makers...
QMM are a group of enthusiastic amateur movie makers who simply enjoy using their video camera to create community entertainment and knowledge. The club meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the O E S Hall, cnr Kitchener Road and Bohland Street, KEDRON at 7.30pm.
The Club has been has been around since 1937 and over this period has always made sure that members can enjoy their hobby by providing the very best equipment and club house facilities. These facilities are available to all members individually and collectively. This allows members the opportunity to share their movies, be they story, documentary or travelogues, with other interested people and to enter the various competitions held throughout the year. They certainly improve movie-making skills and make it an enjoyable hobby.
At the end of July each year QUEENSLAND MOVIE MAKERS hold their annual Award Movie Festival where entries are received from all around Australia. Even the most novice member can enjoy and share in the exchange of creative prowess.
It really doesn't matter what your skill level is when you first join because that is sure to improve over the first year. QUEENSLAND MOVIE MAKERS do this by providing indoor and outdoor movie projects for those who might have difficulty in developing a script. Many of the members with long experience at script writing are only too willing to help others in this regard as are those with greater technical knowledge.
Socially, you can mix with a friendly group of people of all ages who enjoy each others’ company, like to assist in movie making and offer enjoyable entertainment to the broad community throughout the year.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Lectures and technical nights are regularly scheduled so that members may keep up to date with current techniques and equipment on the market. In fact we provide something for everyone interested in amateur movie making. YOU can do this too by becoming a member of the Queensland Movie Makers
Contact the Secretary,Merv Peake, PO Box 33, Alderley 4051, or telephone him on 3356 5051 for a personal invitation or more information.
What's going on at the moment?...
Queensland Movie Makers are going through an exciting stage of development having just received a substantial amount of community funding. The club is now fully equipped to show any format of video from the standard DV stream right through to the next generation of high definition Blu-Ray DVD. Moreso, this significant upgrade of facilities allows us to expand our Seniors Community Program and deliver rmobile film nights to a whole range of retirement villages in the region. The club is very proud of the fact that it can take an hour of first class award winning amateur video to the doorstep of a significant part of our community. In turn, our members, all volunteers, enjoy the audience participation and response.
With the ready availability of video cameras the demand for hobby sharing is on the increase. More than ever people look for help and assistance in the very basic form of movie making. To cater for this demand the Queensland Movie Makers will establish an additional branch club on the south side of Brisbane at Mt Gravatt. We hope to have this new facility fully functional early in the new year.
Whilst members look upon their club with great pride, QMM like most video clubs around Australia share their experiences with a national body called the Federation of Australian Movie Makers (FAMM Ltd). FAMM co-ordinates national activities and the bi-annual national convention which will be held in May 2008 at Bridport Tasmania. This convention is an opportunity to turn your hobby into a holiday. Like everything else in club life all events are family oriented.
